A PE lesson at Woodlands Comprehensive School in Takely End Basildon, Essex, England ended up in tragedy after one of the students died after a rugby ball struck her in the chest.
According to Essex County Council, Leonie Nice, a year of 7 pupil, was hit in the chest and collapsed before noon yesterday. An ambulance arrived a minute after being called, but she died when the crew took her to Basildon Hospital.
Andy White, headteacher of the school said Leonie recognized Nice as a delightful and promising girl. He said the emergency services had given her CPR after she was left unconscious by the struck at the scene.
“The pupils and parents have been informed of this sad event and students who require support are being looked after by our own staff and specialist staff from Essex County Council’s support team,” he said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.”
Leonie’s friends also paid tributes to her. On Twitter, they expressed their deep condolence.
“RIP Leonie-Jo Nice; a beautiful girl, resting with the angels – heaven only takes the best; we all love you; sleep tight angel,” ShannonHernaman tweeted.
The death of the 12-year-old girl happens just 2 weeks after Kyle Rees, 16-year-old schoolboy, died after his head was struck by a cricket ball.
