A member of Indonesia Police Department in North Sumatra accidentally shot to death his own partner, Tempo, a local news portal, reports.

Brigadier Sitanggang Leo, the victim, died after a bullet coming from a gun owned by Brigadier IF penetrated his eye through the back of his head.

Head of Public Relations Division of the Police Department, General Inspector Saud Usman Nasution, said the incident took place on Tuesday, Feb 14th 2012 at around 10.45 local time. IF was cleaning his gun when he intentionally pulled the trigger.

“The bullet went to Brigadier Leo Sitanggang who stands beside him,” he said.

The case is immediately investigated by the Police Security Department of North Sumatera. Saud said that IF obviously has violated the police ethical regulation.

Saud said the sanction will be decided after the investigation done by the authorities has come up with the final conclusion.

“We already have the regulation about how to clean the gun safely. There is a victim so he violated the regulation,” he said.

The victim’s aunt never thought that the incident would happen as he planned to marry his girlfriend on April. The family planned to bury his body in his hometown, Deli Serdang.
