91-year-old Granny Set Guinness World Record as the World’s Oldest Yoga Teacher

It is reported that this 91-year-old granny recently set a new Guinness World Record as the “World’s Oldest Yoga Teacher”. Instead of trying to do her utmost to defend the title, she said that she wouldn’t mind losing this title to someone wiser and older. “Anyone that can beat the record is fine,” Bates said. “I’m sure there’s a 100-year-old guy in India who can probably beat me.”
Bates, who started practicing yoga in 1960, said she wanted to share this achievement to her ‘kids’, the term she addresses the sexagenarians who take the yoga class she teaches, because she couldn’t be a yoga teacher and achieved this award without them. “I think it’s really a joint effort,” she said. “If I didn’t have the kids, I wouldn’t be here.”
Obviously, she also would not get the fame and title without the existence of the Guinness World Records. The organization has been urging the people to break or set a new record on the Guinness World Records Day, the day to commemorate the time when the book Guinness World Records was set to be the most best-selling copyrighted publication of all time in 2004.
Now, with seven years have been passed, the organization still keeps encouraging people to set or break records by breaking the myth of human’s ability limit as Craig Glenday, an editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, said, “It’s a chance for everyone around the world to try a record, try to break one or set a new one.”
